Bob Geldof

Bob Geldof Notable Proposal

Bob Geldof is one of the most notable people to ever live. How many people have grabbed the attention of 1.9 billion viewers? Bob Geldof has. It all started when Bob heard about the famines in Africa and decided he needed to do something about it even if he was just a singer. He was the lead singer and songwriter for the little-known Boomtown Rats an Irish rock band. What skills did he have to solve world hunger? Well, he used his contacts in the music world and his songwriting ability and ended up creating the most famous concert in history: Live Aid. Bob decided to write a song for all the big artists at the time to sing. Mega stars, such as Sting, Simon LeBon, Paul Young, Boy George, Bono and George Michael agreed to sing in this hit: ‘Do they know it's Christmas’ to raise money for famine in Africa.

Unlike other notable people whose actions are sometimes forgotten, no one will ever forget the live aid that he prepared in just ten weeks. It was staged on Saturday July 13th, 1985, and 75 performers such as Elton John, Madonna, Santanna, Run DMC, Sade, Sting, Mick Jagger, The Beach Boys, David Bowie and most notably Queen. It raised 127 million dollars for work against the famines in Ethiopia. Alone his song ‘Do they know it's Christmas?’ raised more than 10 million dollars itself till the date of the event. It also went top of the charts in the UK and US and eventually raised 44 million dollars.

If you don’t think that’s honorable, he even got knighted by the Queen herself. Sir Bob Geldof was truly a notable person, who when faced with a terrible tragedy, didn’t sit and watch, but decided to do something about it using his talents. Not only did he raise tens of millions of dollars, but he created an event, which brought together the likes of Queen, David Bowie and Elton John to create the best performance seen in years. And reuniting Queen is not an easy task, let me tell you.
